Swatch & Review: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in Bourbon and Lucky

Hello everyone!

How is everybody coping with going back to work after the holidays? The beginning is always a bit rough, no?

Today I’m bringing you swatches of Bourbon and Lucky, the two new members of my Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye pencil family. These pencils are so addictive! I only use them on my lower lash line, which means it’ll take me forever to finish one even if they are travel-size, but they all look so nice and colorful that I keep wanting more!

Anyways, without further ado, here are the swatch pictures:

Bourbon is an extremely warm, medium-to-dark opaque brown. You can see some gold sparkle in it, though to me personally it does not scream “glitterville!” The sparkle is fine, but since there is enough of it, you can see this color come to life when there is enough light! I have tested this one out, and I am happy to report the glitter doesn’t get into my eyes. It also wears just as well as all my other 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils too!

Lucky is a rich metallic copper with silver glitter. You can see in the pictures that there isn’t as much glitter in this one as there is in Bourbon, though probably because of the color combination (silver and copper) that it seems more noticeable. I haven’t tried this out so I can’t say for sure if there will be glitter fallout, but if you look at the second picture you will see the glitter is not coarser than the bigger grains in Bourbon. Since Bourbon works well for me, I do not expect to have problems with this one either. I will for sure report if I do though!

The quality of these two is typical Urban Decay. I can wash and rub the back of my hand as much as I want after doing the swatches, but it won’t completely go away till I take my makeup remover out. These are the first shimmery/sparkly/glittery ones I own, but the texture is just as creamy and I don’t feel them dragging on my lids.

What do you think? Have you also collected a bunch of these pencils? Are you hunting down some new shades? Does either Bourbon or Lucky speak to you?

  1. I’ve been wanting to try this product, but I always feel like I have way too many eye pencils already. I love the swatches though, they look gorgeous. The consistency looks super creamy. Thanks for the review Sunny!

    • Thanks Shannon! These pencils restored my faith in eyeliners! I was so traumatized after getting my makeovers done at the Clinique counter almost 10 years ago (!!!) that I stayed away from eyeliners till I got these with my Naked Palette in 2010. What do you own/use though? I’d be interested in trying new ones out!

      • I’m actually a big addict of the MAC Fluidline products. I have both the Macroviolet and the Blacktrack. I use them a lot. I use the black with almost every look. And if I want a colored liner or a pencil, I gravitate towards the jumbo pencil that Sephora has. They are super creamy and go on beautiful. I should blog about them some day I guess!

      • I’m using the Maybelline gel liner at the moment, and I’ll do a review soon just because I really like it! You should totally blog about the Sephora pencils. I didn’t even know they make their own (there is no Sephora in Belgium or Taiwan…), but I’m really curious now!

  2. I have a travel-sized Bourbon and I love how Lucky looks (I might need this one). Urban Decay 24/7 liners are just one of those products that really delivers, great colors and incredible wear!

    • Hey Tina, thanks for dropping by!

You should give Lucky a try! I heard it works very well for blue-eyed beauties 🙂 I love how comfortable these liners are, and the range of colors keeps me coming back for more!

  3. I was in Sephora a while back with a friend, and ended up swatching UD liners because I had a gift card to eat up. We both gasped at how brilliantly Lucky applied, it just kind of melted on and was SO vibrant I knew I had to bring it home with me. Since then, it’s been a stand-out in my stash and a go-to pencil for everyday use. I’ve got ice blue eyes, and it really does make them pop. I love the touch of shimmer, and haven’t noticed any wear issues; have fallen asleep with the stuff on my lashline and woken up the next morning with it still in place.

    • Hey Jay, thanks so much for swinging by and leaving a comment! UD liners are amazingly creamy and glides on so superbly well. That’s why I like them (though I’ve heard people complain they’re too soft and break easily)! I don’t have problems with the glitter in Lucky either, and I did hear cooper is a great color for those with blue eyes!

This does smudge a tiny little on me after 10 hours or so, but on the outer corners and it’s not bad. I’m glad to hear how well the formula works for you though! xx
