FOTD: A Darker Shade of Green with Wet n’ Wild Comfort Zone & My Two Cents on Monolid Eyeliner

Hey everybody, happy Friday! Aren’t you glad you made it this far? What are your plans for the weekend?

Last night I was invited to the welcome event of the city I live in, and I thought I’d play a bit more with my Wet n’ Wild Comfort Zone palette (swatched here). It turned out to be a bit more intense than what I would usually wear, but since the event was at night I thought I could get away with it. Anyways, without further ado:

List of products and breakdown:
Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in 53 Light Beige
Tarte Smooth Operator finishing powder
Bobbi Brown Sable on eyebrows

I applied the crease shade of the right column in the outer half of my eyes, dragging the color in. I used the eyelid color for the inner half of my lids, blending the color in with the crease shade. I highlighted the inner corners with the browbone shade, and my brow bones with Bobbi Brown Bone.

I lined my upper and lower lash line (rather thickly) with Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Gel Eyeliner in Blackest Black. I smudged the upper lash line with Creep and lower lash line with Darkhorse from the Naked Palette.

Maybelline Magnum Volum’ Express Black (waterproof)
Cargo Beachblush in Cable Beach on my cheeks (swatch and review coming soon).
Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess bronzer
Top of my cheekbones and the bridge of my nose were highlighted with Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze (swatch and review coming soon)

Bobbi Brown Nougat on lips

Here are the closeup pictures of my eye:

The look turned out to be more intense because proportionally there was more crease shade than what I would normally use. The olive green eyelid shade was really intensified by the darker crease shade! I do have to warn you while the crease shade is very unique, for bigger areas it is not the easiest to work with. It is a bit patchy, and I had to take my time making it smooth. Also, excuse the fallout from Creep. I tried to smudge my upper lash line out with the tiny little eyeliner brush that came with my Maybelline gel liner, and I don’t think it is designed for powder products.

Here are some more pictures so you get a better look of my face. Do excuse the big post-acne pigmentation spot on my cheek though. I learnt a lesson of not picking at my face before going to bed at 1AM, regardless of how good the idea seems at the time!

Because I have monolids myself, I’ve been thinking what kind of advice I would give to other monolidded girls who are just getting into makeup. Besides using a gel liner, I think beginners will benefit from smudging their eyeliner out with an eyeshadow. That way it will still look good even if you can’t get a crisp line! I would say that those with monolids can get away with more black/dark colors in our eye makeup. If you don’t want to look too dramatic or dark (especially during daytime for example), just remember to limit dark colors to the part of your lids that is not visible when your eyes are open. If you feel like going all out, you can of course do so!

That’s it for today! If you also have monolids, what are your tips for eye makeup?

If you like the look, don’t forget to follow me with Bloglovin’ or Twitter! I’m just getting into Twitter and it’s lots of fun, so come join me!

Psst for those who live in Belgium, I found Comfort Zone on this website if you’re interested in purchasing one! Other than that it’s pretty tricky to get anything Wet n’ Wild here!

  1. Oh, thats awesome, I really didnt knew that that webshop sold wetnwild! I really adore the green colour on you, I think its my favorite look of you so far, it goes so well with you, and you look stunning! Can you believe that I used to have very uneven eyes back in the days? I had a normal lid and a monolid, and it drove me insane! It was just horrible to apply make-up, because I was quite cueless about evening my eyes out. Thank God one day I suddenly had two even eyes, but it was pretty strange before, lol.

    • Yeah, I found it by chance! I used to think it’s impossible to get a lot of stuff in Belgium, but after some digging I’ve found lots of both high- and low-end American brands on offer!

Thanks for the compliment! Can you believe I used to dislike green? Crazy how it turned out to be one of the colors that works the best on me!

I’ve heard many stories of monolidded girls waking up with double lids, but unfortunately that hasn’t happened to me (probably won’t either, but that’s OK because I’ve learnt to embrace my monolids lol)! Do you know there are eyelid tape/glue in Asia that can turn monolids into double lids? My best friend uses eyelid tape because she wakes up with uneven eyelids sometimes!

      • Yeah, I heard about the eyelid tape and glue, luckely I don’t need it, but I used to have days that I woke up with uneven eyelids, I even had nightmares about it! Sometimes a stupid mosquito decides to sting in my eyes, so I wake up with a swollen uneven eyelid, lol, now thats really awful!

  2. omg to both of you- I had one monolid and one double lid for most of my life! Then I discovered the tapes and used those for probably 8 years or so. I used to wear them on the monolid eye when I sleep then have double lids the next day. Then sometimes, to my horror, the monolid eye would stay a monolid and I’d have to walk around with uneven lids. Ugh, those were the worst (ok it’s not that bad compared to the terrible things in this world haha)
I finally had eyelid surgery done in Korea to make them both glad! I’ll have to go back and redo them as they sag over time. My epicanthic fold is annoying when it comes to makeup applications, though. Oh well, life could be worse right? πŸ™‚
Hope you ladies have a great weekend!

    • Ahhh It really looks like I should be happy about having monolids all the way! My best friend also complains about waking up with uneven eyelids, but unless I cried my eyes out the night before I wake up with the same monolids lol

I wasn’t aware that you can redo a surgery like that though, and now I’m curious! Would you consider doing a post on that?

You have a great weekend too! I’m going through all the posts in your blog and I really enjoy them!

      • Yeah I think everyone has to redo their eyelids every XX amount of years, kind of like how you have to redo a breast augmentation after 10 years or so. I would do a post on it if the need to redo the surgery comes soon enough. πŸ™‚

Thank you! I thoroughly enjoy your blog as well!

      • I think monolids are very pretty! It’s just having one monolid and one normal lid is annoying, because it just looks strange. It really annoyed me, but apparantly nobody ever noticed it, lol.

      • I learnt to love my monolids late (they’re less desirable back home), but now I’m pretty happy about them!

There ARE a lot of things people have complexes about that others never see πŸ™‚ At the moment I’m hoping nobody can see the huge post-acne pigmentation spot in the middle of my cheek lol

    • I flipped a little when I finally located mine in New York (in the Walgreens outside of the Empire State Building. What a tourist lol)! I grabbed it and held onto it while looking at everybody around me suspiciously, lest they tried to take it from my hands lol. I don’t know why we don’t have Wet n’ Wild here (like a lot of other great things heh)!

I checked your post out! Britteney still has a fold, albeit not a pronounced one. I’ll try your sweeping upwards trick soon though! Thanks for sharing Christina πŸ™‚

  3. This is a really pretty look! I like the dramatic liner and shadows on you πŸ˜€ I can never seem to pull off dramatic or smokey looks – it always looks like I got punched in the eye or something lol.

I have monolids and I prefer gel and liquid liners too. Pencil liners never stay on my lids and always smudge midday, leaving a half moon imprint on my eye lid. I always wing my liner a bit at the ends πŸ™‚

    • Thanks so much Rinny! I really think the trick is to limiting the dark part so that it’s barely visible when the eyes are open. And yes, winging the eyeliner out makes a whole world’s difference!

  4. very nice! i love greens on you. (*jealous*)
i just calmed down all my lemmings for WnW palettes but now i can feel they are moving again!

    i used to have monolids.
    (no, i didn’t get a job done. ;p)
i find the convetional eyemakeup methods that usually follow through 4 steps don’t work for me whether i have monolids or not.
i was actually going to blog about this. thanks for the inspirations! πŸ™‚

    • Hey Lena, maybe you can try cooler greens? Temptalia published her top 5 picks recently. Remember, there are colors you can wear that will just look really off on me!

Please share your technique with us! Your eyes are way nice and I could always do with some inspiration!

      • awww thank you for the link and the encouragement!
i can do cooler green or green with grey understone, but i look terrible if i wear straight-up green, so-called “kelly green”, fo that i don’t like st. patrick’s day, either. lol

      • Hahaha you can wear anything on Saint Patty’s Day as long as it’s green as far as I’m concerned :p Anything remotely green will show your respect to this great booze-filled holiday lol

  5. I love Comfort Zone, it is such a steal.

I don’t have monolids myself, but I really like reading about the different techniques for different eye shapes. My eyes are, according to one MAC artist, an “unusual” shape so it’s taken some experimentation to figure out what works and what doesn’t!

    • Hey Emi, thanks so much for dropping by and leaving a comment!

You got me all interested in your eye shape now. I tried to find it on your blog but failed lol. Anyways I like your swatch projects so I’m following you now πŸ™‚
