Happy Sunday everyone! How is your weekend so far? I am actually down with a stomach flu, so besides working on my blog I haven’t done much this weekend. Ah well. At least I’ll probably lose some weight over this lol
I took some photos of the FOTDs I did this week. However, since I am really unhappy about how one of them turned out and the other is an old standby, I didn’t want to do separate posts about them. On top of that, I managed to bruise a patch of skin on my nose bridge trying to get rid of a spot. Concealer worked but didn’t make it disappear entirely. I toyed with the idea of not putting any FOTDs up this week, but since blogging is a way of keeping track, I’m putting both looks in one post.
The first look was done with MAC Shale on lids, the definer shade of the right column of Wet n’ Wild Comfort Zone to contour, and the Browbone shade of the right column to highlight the inner corners. The definer shade was also used to smudge my lower lash line out. It turned out weird. Really really weird, in a way that it darkened my face instead of brightening it. I guess Shale is not meant to be mixed with these two shades, or maybe I didn’t use them strategically enough.
Here is the eye closeup so you can see how bleh it is:
All in all, NOT a combination I’d do again!
The other one was an old standby with the Naked Palette. I used Half Baked on lids, Smog to contour, and Darkhorse on my lower lash line.
It’s a no-brainer, but it’s something I have always appreciated ever since I got the palette almost a year and a half ago. I do think I’m getting a little too pale to wear Half Baked well though. Can’t wait for the warm and sunny season to come!
I wore Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait for both looks. Swatch and review will come soon!
How about you? How would you wear a color like Shale? What is a look you tried and actively disliked recently?
PS: Jazz, the cat of Christina from The Makeup Train got seriously ill. He was taken to the vet’s and managed to make a full and speedy recovery. However, the bill is huge, so Christina started a blog sale to try to generate some fund. Please take a look if you’re interested! It’s getting makeup and helping a cat at the same time!
Sunny xx
Hmm, I honestly don’t see how shale is making you darker? It really looks fine by me :). I actually think you can get away with a lot of colours tbh. I really hope you get better soon, having the stomache flu isnt always very pleasent, but they mostly tend to go away quite fast :).
Thanks Teri! I’m already much better now, though I have no idea how I got a stomach flu in the first place! And trust me, Shale doesn’t work very well the way I used it. I was given the pointer to use a metallic white or peachy pink for the inner third if I want to wear Shale this way. I might give it a try!
Sorry to hear you are feeling uner the weather Sunny! I love your look with the Naked Palette. I’m personally a big fan of Shale – I like to pair it with Blackberry eyeshadow by MAC to do a really simple smokey look.
I can’t wait to see your review on that lip butter. The colour looks gorgeous on you. I don’t know how well I can pull peaches off, but looking at your pic, it makes me want to try!
Take care my dear! xx
Hey Shannon, thanks but I’m a lot better already! I should try to do a smokey eye with Shale. It’s a nice color but admittedly not the easiest to use (or maybe just not for my skintone. I don’t know)!
I will review the lip butters soon so stay tuned π
PS: I just saw your post about the big day. It made me melt a little π
Aww thanks Sunny, I’m glad you liked it. There will be more to come about that I am sure. Did you see the post “You may now kiss the bride”? It was a review showing the lipstick I used. It’s a very cool product I didn’t know existed until I went shopping specifically for wedding lipstick. You should check it out. Can’t wait to know more about the lip butters! I am on the edge of my seat!
I think Shale looks quite nice on your eyes, I don’t see any darkening π
Sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well, hope you feel better soon, Sunny!
Thanks L! It was pretty much a one-day thing so now I’m alive and kickin’ again!
Trust me, Shale is a bit difficult to manipulate. I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting very pale in winter or what, but some shades that used to work for me are not looking as nice nowadays!
i don’t think the first look is bleh at all! i actually like the green shimmery color on your lower lash lines. π
i do understand there are always more comfortable colors to visit no matter how many compliments you get from using your not-so-comfortable colors.
i am still experimenting outside of comfort zone myself. i tried a straight-up green contacts on today i didn’t hate it. yay! π
Hey Lena, hurrah for the green contacts! You must show some pictures soon!
I’m actually comfortable with Shale and the duochrome shade from Comfort Zone. It’s just the combination I don’t like. The colors that are REALLY out of my comfort zone include blue and orange if you must know :p
