How Could I Not Have Fallen for These Baby Diors? Diorshow New Look Mascara & Dior Vernis 943 Rouge Garçonne

Never say never, people. Never say never, because before you know it, it will backfire and your new self will be slapping the old one on the face!

Just a couple of weeks ago, I answered a question on a blog: what would you not purchase high-end? My answer was mascara. It’s something that you are supposed to throw away after three months, plus I had never been amazed by a non-drugstore mascara, so what was the point?

And then I received a baby tube of Diorshow New Look Mascara as a gift with purchase. I was skeptical, but since it was in my hands why not give it a try?

I did.

It was LOVE.

The brush of this mascara is tiny. I have seen the full-size version, and it looks even smaller on a regular wand. The brush is made of rubber, and it is flexible. There are tiny little spikes on the brush. From what I can see on the Sephora website, this is supposed to be a volumizing mascara. Curiously enough, it is also suggested to be layered over the Diorshow Maximizer or any other Diorshow mascara. Since I don’t own any of those, I put it to test by itself.

What I love about this mascara:

+ It lengthens, perhaps not as well as a lengthening mascara, but I actually prefer one that has a balance of the length and volume it adds.

+ It volumizes. Hello thick and fluttery lashes!

+ It doesn’t clump easily. The little brush makes it easy to comb everything out.

+ It holds curls despite the fact that it is not waterproof! I do have to use my lash curler beforehand to curl my lashes, but my curls troop on with this baby!

+ My lashes stay fluttery and soft, not crunchy, stiff, or brittle.

+ It is removed very easily with Bioderma, or any other eye makeup remover of your choice.

What I don’t like so much about this mascara:

– At the end of the day, it does smudge a tiny little on my lower outer corner. It’s not a deal-breaker for me, and I can wipe it off very easily, but I have to be honest about this!

Now behold the magic of Diorshow New Look! From left to right: bare (curled) lashes, one coat on the upper lashes, two coats on the upper lashes and one on the bottom. You can right click to open the link in new tab to see it in all its grandeur.

Bottom line: Despite the fact that the price tag will probably make me weep, when I go through all the other mascara that I still have to test out, I will seriously consider purchasing a tube of Diorshow New Look. I love the length, volume, curls, and soft fluttery lashes I get with this. Bravo Dior!

PS: Again, as I always tell my readers, even if I am a fan of something, try to get a sample of this before you splurge on it. Especially with mascara, the performance can vary a lot from person to person!

Another gift with purchase I got is a baby bottle of Dior Vernis in 943 Rouge Garçonne (literally means boyish red, though I have no idea what’s boyish about it). Here is a picture of it in comparison with the full-size bottle of Incognito. Cute eh?

Now let’s take a closer look at the color:

It is a very classic blackened cherry red. However, as what is typical about Dior Vernis, there’s always something that sets it apart from other nail polishes. If I look closely at my nail under the light, I see some tiny gold shimmer. You wouldn’t see it from the normal viewing distance, but I think it makes the polish a bit more special. Also, the color is very clean and pure. Even though it has a cream finish, there is nothing “murky” or “heavy” about this color, or any other Dior Vernis I have tried.

Since it is a GWP, it doesn’t come with the regular tapered Dior Vernis brush (so sad! That’s my favorite part about Dior Vernis). But hey, let’s not look at the gift horse in the mouth! The consistency is a bit thick and gloopy. Again, since it’s a GWP, I can’t vounch for the regular formula of this color. With two coats however, I did achieve nice opacity.

It’s an all-time classic color that I associate more with cooler weather, but since we’re really not having a good spring here in Belgium, I could totally get away with it!

Have you tried any Dior mascara? Do you splurge on high-end or luxury mascara? Would you consider doing it if you find one that you really like?

  1. Wow!! That mascara looks awesome for you!! I get torn about high-end mascaras-sometimes I find one I love, but then I find a drugstore one that’s just as good or even better. I tend to rotate a high end one with a drugstore one.
I have never tried Dior polishes for some reason. I sort of forget that they make them, even though most bloggers adore them. I think I just haven’t seen one that speaks to me yet. But I love that colour-very vampy!

    • Thanks Tracy!!! I have way too many untested mascara at the moment, so I really can’t buy another one anytime soon. When I finally work these out of the system though, I’ll have to devise a mascara-buying strategy. We’ll see!

I REALLY like Dior Vernis brushes. I’m really bad at painting my nails, but I systematically get a very decent job done with them. If you see a color that you like, I’d say plop down the money, take it home, and you’ll be impressed!

  2. I had the exact same conversation with myself/ on my blog recently. I figured why spend money on mascara that isn’t drugstore mascara and then I tried Mally Beauty’s Volumizing mascara and it’s a brand new world.

    • Ooo now I have to check that one out (though I really shouldn’t. I have god knows how many untested mascara at the moment, and I don’t want to test them out altogether because they’ll all go bad after 3 months and it’s such a waste)!

      • I hate to tell you to forego testing your other mascara and spend more money, but I would be an irresponsible beauty addict if I didn’t tell you that I LOVE Mally Beauty’s mascara. It is TRULY amazing– perfect black, wonderfully volumizing, conditioning…. just perfection. you can find it on her website online.

    • Hey Louise, I actually got a little sample of Chanel Inimitable a while ago and it’s on my to-try list. I wonder if the brush is similar too! I’ll test it out and keep you posted 🙂

    • I know right? Mama mama I’ve got lashes XD

It looks even smaller on a regular wand, but it’s one of the best parts about this mascara! It gets all of my tiny fluff and makes it into real lashes!

  3. great mascara it seems! thanks for the review.
i am actually drooling over that gorgeous dark red polish.
(your twit for this post cracked me up. lol)

    happy weekend, Sunny!

    • Hey Nanni! I checked your post and I have to say the rational consumer in me totally agrees with you. Darn the little samples right? I’ll be trying to find a drugstore mascara that does wonders, and I will for sure share it with you here!

  4. DiorShow (the original) is the one I want to try. Smudging sort of makes me nervous. When mascara smudges on me, all hell breaks loose. 😛 Still, I wouldn’t mind trying this.

  5. I love diorshow extase with the maximizer! I think it’s amazing! I got a coworker into Using the maximizer and her lashes always look amazing!

It’s alot of $ though, and at this point I don’t have money to spare on mascara that is going to expire that I won’t even use up. I’m going to stick with drugstore until I have a better paying job! Lol, so sad

  6. The mascara really lengthens your lashes very well! I have to agree that mascara is one thing I refuse to splurge on though. I go through them too quickly to justify the cost and my trusty Maybelline mascara has yet to fail me 🙂 Love the polish color too! The bottle is so cute ^^

    • I’m a big Maybelline mascara fan too! I still have to try their non-waterproof mascara. I’ve been sticking to only waterproof one till recently, and if I have one complaint about Maybelline waterproof mascara, is it leaves my lashes very crunchy!
