Is it Too Early to Think about Autumn? Because I’ve Found the Perfect Gloss! Giorgio Armani Gloss d’Armani 401

I’ve heard a lot about Giorgio Armani Gloss d’Armani, but you know me. I’m not that big on lip products in general, and gloss was really not my thing until very recently. However, when I got to try my first Gloss d’Armani in 401, it was a moment at which all the angels started singing in heaven! What can I say? Giorgio Armani has massively impressed me again!

Gloss d’Armani Gloss d’Armani comes in an oval tube, which I thought is worth mentioning because you don’t seem many of these. The cap is black and the Giorgio Armani logo is attached to it, which I find an excellent detail.

The applicator is hands down the best I’ve ever tried. It’s a long doe-foot applicator that is flexible. Yup, you heard that right, flexible. I honestly can’t imagine an applicator that is more comfortable than this on the lips. It’s soft, bendable, and spongy. It also comes out with just the right amount of product for each use!

Gloss d’Armani 401 is a less raved-about color, though I really think someone has to do this baby justice! I can best describe the color as a raspberry red with a healthy dose of pink and golden shimmer. The shimmer is SO fine and reflective however, I think it just adds a beautiful reflective quality to the gloss without looking gritty or in-your-face kind of shimmery. The general consensus is that Gloss d’Armani doesn’t have a smell, but I do detect a faint hint of something. I can’t quite put my fingers around it. It doesn’t smell like added fragrance. If you have sniffed a mascara, I would say the scent is similar to that. Once on the lips though, I can no longer detect it.

The formula is something else that makes this gloss truly phenomenal. It’s neither buttery nor sticky. I would say the texture is similar to a glaze, and it is very comfortable on my lips. It is easy to glide on, but once it sets it becomes a tiny bit tacky, though it really is a tiny bit and calling it tacky is going pretty far. The staying power is something else that has entirely taken me by surprise: it can go for 5-6 hours through food and drinks! The shine disappears after 2 and a half hours, but the color does linger exceptionally well for a lip gloss!

What I love about this gloss, besides the packaging, applicator, texture, and lasting power, is the fact that it is a very brightening shade. I’ve worn this when I wore no other makeup, and it brightens my complexion with minimal effort. It’s opaque, and I think it’s just loud enough, which makes it versatile. It’s more than “my lips but better,” but stops short of all-out vampy if you know what I mean. It works well alone, but I think it’d give lipsticks some extra oomph and shine when layered as well.

I can’t wait to rock it in autumn! I think it’ll look great with my go-to autumn blush, MAC Tea Petal Cremeblend Blush!

Have you tried Gloss d’Armani? Where do you stand on juicy berry shades? Are they something you’d wear all-year-round or do they remind you of autumn?

  1. God this looks gorgeous! I don’t know what’s come over me lately, but I am LOVING really sheer, glossy reds. Example, I LOVE the Gloss D’Armani red shade (Andradite Red, maybe?) that Arianne reviewed a little while ago, Burberry’s Lip Mist in Rosy Red is calling to me, and this one!

Who knows? Pretty soon, maybe I’ll be sporting a full on, opaque red lip!

    • Oooo yeah I know that one! Red Andradite so much sheerer applied than how it looks in the tube though! I’m still feeling my way around brighter colors too, but this is a shade that I’m comfortable wearing and the boyfriend (who hates bright lipsticks with a passion) is A OK with it too. Bonus point!

    • Thanks so much Mimi! With the weather we’ve been having here I can certainly wear this all the time. I don’t even know if I should feel sad about that or not!

    • Yay you go Larie! I think I reach for different colors in different seasons. I don’t know if I’m programmed to do that or if it’s some kind of instinct!

  2. Woow, it looks gorgeous on you! But it looks more lighter than the swatch on your arm ;o. I don’t really like lipglosses, hihi. I like the catrice one, only because it smells like gummibears β™₯.

    • I used not to like lipglosses at all till I found some good ones! I didn’t know Catrice gloss smells like gummy bear. Looks like I’ll have to take a look next time I’m in a drugstore!

    • Hey Peggy, I was surprised too! I’m glad it’s just red enough but not really in-your-face. It’s something I can wear without my boyfriend wincing lol
