Taipei So Far: Food, New Perm, Cle de Peau…!

(Taipei 101 from my lunch table)

Hey everyone!

Nihao from Taipei! I’m sorry for not having been as active on Twitter and so on, but I do try to reply to comments, and if you have any questions I am more than happy to answer as fast as I can. I hope you’re having some summer fun, and that the scheduled posts are keeping you somehow entertained. I’ll try my best to show you what I took with me and so on soon, but before that I’m showing you my new perm and other fun stuff!

This, my friend, is the close-up of my hair halfway through my digital perm. The whole thing looks like the following picture. Please excuse my face. I was badly jet-lagged and my eyes got SO dried out on the plane that they were puffy. I swear I normally don’t have bags!

Fun eh? Here you see my hair right after the curlers were taken out. Don’t worry because it certainly didn’t look like that anymore once they rinsed it out!

Are you curious to see how it looks now? This is an FOTD my friend took for me after my Cle de Peau experience. The lady cleaned everything but my eye makeup off (it’s just Eyes to Kill #25 used wet as a thick, winged liner. I’ll do a separate post at some point, but for now I’d encourage all of you glass-wearers with monolids to give it a try), and I was mesmerized by both how perfect my skin looked for the rest of the day as well as the intricate ritual the brand offers. I got something (Translucent Corrector. It’s basically a pore minimizer) and I’ll review it once I have assessed it properly!

Din Tai Fung is a local restaurant that is the most famous for their soup dumplings. It has expanded to many big cities around the world. If you live near one you really should go at least once!

The soup dumpling makers. They have a very very precise process for weighing out all the ingredients. Even the number of folds on each dumpling stays the same!

The mascot:

What you find on each table for the tab. I like how cute this little dude is! His head is shaped like a steamer!

Yummy dumplings. I can eat them every day!

Bubble tea is a sensation in many countries, but did you know it is originated from Taiwan? The tapioca pearls are chewy, and you can put them in many different drinks! Here they are sitting in my tea with milk 🙂

Gin Ger is a local skincare brand that I am immensely proud of. They use ginger (duh! Haha) in all of their products that is cultivated locally. My favorite so far is their hand cream!

Last but not least, the fountain outside of Taipei 101. On hot days you see children playing there!

I hope you enjoyed the glimpse of Taipei that I’m sharing with you! I’ll try to show you what I packed as well as my haul as soon as I can!

Stay fabulous and have fun!

Sunny, your beauty culture translator xx

    • You should come to Taipei, Paris! If you like beach holidays/hiking we have great locations in Taiwan as well, and need I mention how much SHOPPING you can do here? LOL

  1. Looks like you’re having a grand time, Sunny!

Your perm looks great — I was expecting something very “Curly Sue” (I had a traumatic experience :p), but I love how natural yours looks.

Cle de Peau is one of the brands I’m really looking forward to trying, especially the concealer. 🙂

Anyway, hope the rest of your trip goes just as fabulously… Can’t wait to see all your goodies!

    • I am, Dani! I’ve been going to the same guy for 6 years and a half for a reason! Perms could go REALLY wrong. Well generally speaking hairdresser appointments could be really wrong.

Cle de Peau has a whole intricate process of doing base makeup, and the end result was pretty awesome (it also held up in this weather which is amazing)! The price range isn’t too friendly, but you should experience it once and see what you think!

  2. Ahhh fun! Just googled the restaurant and freaked out. Might need to go to LA just for this restaurant! (haha don’t worry I was already contemplating a weekend trip) the mascots are adorable and all their food looks amazing!

Anyways you look great and I’m glad you’re having fun!

  3. Hmmmm, dumplingssss, give them to meeeee! There’s this place in Hasselt that sells bubble tea, but I’ve always found it a bit weird, so I never bougt it. Maybe I should 🙂
How long does your perm last this way? It’s quite innovating to see!

    • Haha you should try it once Stamatia! The pearls are chewy and only slightly sweet, so it’s not THAT weird :p

My curls can stay for quite a while after the perm. Last year my hair was slightly curly allll the way till I got to see my hairdresser again!

  4. Your perm looks good! There are a few Din Tai Feng in Singapore but friends who tried the branches in Taipei all commented Singapore branches pale in comparison, so I must go Taipei to try one day. I love bubble teas too, especially milk oolong tea with pearls.

  5. I LOVE xiao lung bao. The skin is soooo yummy. I usually buy the frozen ones from chinatown and steam them at home myself. So simple and yummy. =)

By the way, the mascot with the xiao lung bao head is adorable. I wonder if they sold them as souvenirs?

  6. I’m longing to go to Taiwan. I saw images of it on TV one day and just FELL IN LOVE. I also studied here at university with a guy from Taiwan and he was such a great person and made a good impression on me. If everyone there is like him I bet it is a fabulous place. Hope to get over there one day!

  7. Aw Sunny–you look so pretty with your glasses on! I’ve never seen you in them before! and OMG, you have me craving bubble tea SO badly right now. My favorite one that I always get is honeydew milk tea with mini strawberry boba. SOOOOO good!

      • I would LOVE some glasses friendly looks. I usually wear contacts, but sometimes glasses and I don’t know what to do make up-wise.

  8. Aw! I’ve had Din Tai Fung in Singapore before and they were indeed scrumptious! I love soup dumplings and I am extremely jealous of your authentic bubble tea. My friend’s in Taiwan right now as well and she keeps telling me that all she does is drink bubble tea because she hasn’t anything better than that in the States.

    Enjoy your vacation!
