Dior Golden Jungle Taipei Launch! Swatches, FOTD, NOTD

Hey everyone!

Yesterday I went to the Dior Golden Jungle Launch in Taipei. Since it’s one of the collections I was looking forward to the most this autumn, I took a whole bunch of photos and swatched some pieces for you! There are also some FOTDs and NOTDs if you want to see the pieces in action. I hope you’re getting excited!

The event took place at the Wedgewood Tea Room. Since it’s on top of the department store building and each of us had a working station to ourselves, I had quite possibly the best lighting and surface to work with to date. The head artist of Dior demonstrated on a model how to work with different products, from the foundation routine to the finished face with a simple smokey eye.

We also each had an SA to help us complete the look. Mine had a much harder time because I kept swatching things and asking for tissues/makeup remover!

Despite the fact that I am neither a fan of crackle polishes nor one of crocodiles, the second I saw the promotional image of Dior Crocodile Leather Effect Nails I was intrigued. When I saw it on the SAs last week, I was pretty sure I wanted to take it home!

The Crocodile Leather Effect Nails come in a set with two nail polishes, including the base (gold) and the crackle (khaki green). The first thing I noticed about these is that the brushes are not typical Dior Vernis brushes. They are longer and not tapered (in other words closer to the ones you’d see from other brands). The SA told me that this is done on purpose, as if you make the coats TOO even it wouldn’t work as well.

The effect could be extremely fine if you put on very thin layers, but also much more obvious with thicker coats. I removed the nail polish on my ring finger to show you (it’s OPI Glitzerland on the rest if you are curious).

Here the coats are extremely thin, and I would almost consider it as a failed attempt because the colors aren’t coming out. I also tried a layer of the crackle on my pinky (where two coats of OPI Glitzerland weren’t removed), and the lines are SO fine that you almost don’t see them. Fail!

I used thicker coats the second time around and it worked much better! I know that you could make the coats even thicker to have the pattern looking yet again different, so it really depends on what you’re after! What I love about it is the fact that it requires one coat each, and the texture is fine instead of rubbery. Also, just to be honest, I think it’s by far the prettiest crackle effect I’ve seen!

The Khaki Design 5-Couleurs Designers has 4 eyeshadows and one liner. I think the color combination is fabulous, and the fact that they included a liner also makes it very practical (though I can’t testify how well it works/holds up). However, the two lighter shades have a chalkier texture and they aren’t very pigmented on me.

Golden Savannah on the other hand comes with 5 good-performing shades. The only one that is not very pigmented is the golden shade in the middle. However, I do think it is sheer by design. It would work well to highlight your inner corners, the center of your eyes, or even layer over other shades. This is a quint that would be great for smokier looks, and I am personally satisfied with the quality!

Now, what did I learn from the head makeup artist? I learnt how to do a simple smokey eye with Golden Khaki!

Let me get this out first: I think the pattern is fabulous. I don’t own/wear anything with leopard print, but this one is very nicely put-together! I had doubts about picking individual colors up with brushes, though now that I’ve played with it I can tell you it is possible (not a big and fluffy brush, but something like MAC 239 should work)!

The texture/pigmentation are not the best I’ve seen from Dior, and I wasn’t sure how it would work. The head makeup artist taught us to first line the waterline and lash line with a pencil liner before mixing the two darker shades and using the mixture all over our lids. As soon as it hit my lid I breathed a sigh of relief, as it didn’t take a lot of building up for the color to show up (I did have UDPP on, but that’s what I systematically do). The fallout was minimal as well (there was a tiny bit, but it’s most probably because I only had a sponge applicator to work with). Since I had extra time, I also worked the darkest shade into my outer v/crease, highlighted the inner corners/center of my eyes/brow bones with the lightest one. Some liquid eyeliner (I took my own) and mascara later it was done, and I like the result very much!

(Do excuse the foundation shade. I could write a whole post about the “wanting to look fair” thing and what effect this concept has on SAs recommending foundation shades, but I won’t bore you here)

The gloss isn’t very pigmented, and I’m pretty sure it’ll be lost on my lips. Nevertheless I think it’s a cute palette to tote around if you ever need some touching up!

All in all it was a fun experience, and I did go home with Crocodile Leather Effect Nails. I’m pretty sure I’ll get Golden Savannah at some point, though that’ll probably have to wait till I’m back in Belgium!

Have you seen Dior Golden Jungle? Does anything from this collection interest you? What are some other autumn collections that you can’t wait to lay your hands on?

Comma Store Opening, OOTD, + Dior Summer Mix Sneak Peek!

Dear readers, please indulge me, for this is a pseudo fashion post! It probably won’t happen too often. While I do consider myself properly-dressed most of the time, I wear dresses/skirts 365 days a year. Besides telling you where to find nice dresses if my I-want-to-know-how-many-colors-I-can-get-away-with style interests you, I’m completely useless when it comes to “putting an outfit together.” However, since I was invited to the Comma store opening in Antwerp a while back, and I did manage to make the pieces I picked look halfway decent on me, I’ve decided to show you the store with something like an OOTD (outfit of the day)!

Also, stay tuned till the end for a sneak preview of the Dior Summer Mix collection!

Brussels PR Day: New from Bumble and Bumble, Deborah Lippmann, Bobbi Brown, Tom Ford, & More!

Hey everyone!

I hope your week is off to a good start! I went to several PR agencies in Brussels last week to check out the new releases, and here I am with the report!

First of all, our old friend Senteur d’Ailleurs is presenting new releases from several brands they carry.

Do you see Deborah Lippmann? Ray of Light and the Nails Of Steel Magnetic Wave Nail Lacquer Set were on display.

I was most intrigued by Ray of Light, but as I had nail polish on and there was no remover, I couldn’t swatch it for you (bummer). I did take a close-up picture though. Opinions on this nail polish are quite diverse. Most people say the consistency is thick but doesn’t cause problems. However, for some the beauty of this complex shade is lost in translation on their nails. You might want to swatch it before you purchase.

Bumble and Bumble came out with a new line called Color Minded for color-treated hair. I might not be the best person to judge whether it works (because my hair is not color-treated). Has anyone heard anything about this?

Oh, and Dermalogica launched a new Night Repair Serum. I heard the consistency is very thick, but you only need a tiny bit each time.

I saw some Tom Ford lipsticks too, and this time I remembered to swatch them for you! This one is True Coral.

Here I swatched True Coral, Sable Smoke, and Pink Adobe. Is anything calling your name?

Decleor is a French brand that focuses on a holistic approach to beauty. Besides scientists and cosmetic experts, they have their own feng-shui teacher! Now that doesn’t happen very often!

Sampar is a French brand that is designed to young girls who just started working. Their bestsellers are Glamour Shot (there is also a Glamour Shot for the eyes), because apparently in one swipe it erases fine lines and other kinds of imperfections! One of the PRs dabbed some on his face, and holy moly it was as if he just had some real-life Photoshop done! I am definitely intrigued!

Naturelle d’Orient is a French brand that uses a high percentage of pure Argan oil in their products. The packaging might seem humble but apparently the stuff is good!

Bobbi Brown is launching its own version of BB cream later this year (seems like EVERYBODY is doing it)! I got a Brow Shaper to try, and I will for sure review it soon! My first impression is very positive, though I do have to use a VERY light hand. However, it is also possible that the shade I got is a bit dark for me (Mahogany).

La Mer is launching a lighter version of their famous cream. It is supposed to have the same effect, just lighter so that those with oily skin or prefer a lighter cream would be able to get into it. They also launched an anti-aging body cream, so that the skin on your body can stay just as young!

Jo Malone is adding new scents to their grand existing range. I discovered Pomegranate Noir this time. It’s sweet and spicy, nothing juvenile or fake!

That’s the end of the virtual tour. I hope you enjoyed it! I will probably receive more information later, and I will definitely keep all of you posted! In the meantime, I also took a bunch of non-beauty-related pictures that I thought would be entertaining. If you’re interested in taking a look, please click on this link to go to Mostly Sunny’s Facebook page. Like it if you haven’t already! I think it’s better to separate the just-for-fun photos from beauty-related news. That way it doesn’t get overwhelming.

I hope your week is off to a good start! I have a lot of things to review and share with you, so stayed tuned! Also, for those of you who haven’t joined my grand birthday giveaway, please do so here. If you live in Belgium, please remember you can also participate in the Miss Dior Eau Fraiche giveaway here.

Sneak Preview: Givenchy Summer 2012 Collection (Probably the FIRST Batch of Swatches You’ll See!!!)

Hey everyone!

How are you doing? I hope you’re coping just fine with the beginning of a new working week. I had quite possibly the most exciting Monday ever in my life, because I was invited to the headquarters of Givenchy to see their new collections! Since I took way too many pictures (naturally), I am going to divide them into two parts. For this part, I will show you the sneak peek of their Summer 2012 Collection. For the next part, I will show you their Crosiere Collection (most of which is permanent) and the complimentary products that will work well with it.

Are you ready? Let’s go!

Let me not prolong the wait by showing you the star of the show: the much-anticipated Ombre a Fleur de Peau Cream Eyeshadow in Pearly Rose and Pearly Nude!

Pearly Rose is a very mauve-y pink on me, and Pearly Nude is really just nude. In the pictures below you can see how they swatch and how they look once they are blended out.

To be very honest, I was a little skeptical when I saw the promotional image. Literally every brand nowadays, including drugstore ones offer similar products, so why would Givenchy bother? Once I started blending it on the back of my hand however, I realized the texture is exquisitely good. It is like a mousse that goes on airy light. I am not too sure about the glitter, and I will have to test it out to report if it has any fall-out, so you might have to give me a couple of days for that!

This collection comes with a magic kajal called Delicate Nude. It is supposed to be great for the waterline (to brighten the eyes up without looking very fake in comparison with a stark white liner), or even as a lip liner. Every Givenchy liner comes with a sharpener, and this is no exception!

Next we have the lip products. This collection comes with one Rouge Interdit (#56 Delicate Rose), one Rouge Interdit Shine (#26 Delicate Brown), and one Gloss Interdit (#03 Coral Frenzy).

The lipsticks feel light and smooth. I am not too sure about the glitter in Delicate Brown, so again, I will have to test it out to see if the glitter will travel around. The Gloss Interdit has the texture of a glaze. It is neither the most sheer nor the stickiest gloss I have tried.

In terms of nail polish, Givenchy has actually brought out a color that is uncommon enough for summer: a brown by the name of Delicate Brown. Below you can also see the beautiful hand of Anastasia, or should I call her Ms Givenchy?

They even brought out a brown mascara (Mascara Phenomenon Brown), if you want to keep the look very casual and understated (though admittedly it wouldn’t work for everyone):

Apparently the brush is easy to use once you figure out you are not supposed to zig-zag with it the way you use your regular mascaras. Instead, you are supposed to push your eyelashes up from the roots with it. Also, another piece of news is that Givenchy will be launching a revolutionary mascara in September. There is a media embargo on this one, so Anastasia couldn’t tell me more than this. However, at least we know we should keep our eyes peeled!

So this is the sneak peek of Givenchy Summer 2012 for you! What do you think? Is the anything that you’re interested in checking out? Again, I have received some pieces to try out, so if you want to know how they work, you should stay tuned (follow me on Bloglovin’ or Twitter would be the first step)!

Special thanks go to Anastasia who is all kinds of gorgeous, and tolerated while I took pictures and swatched all the products like a mad woman!
