For the Love of Summer and Corals: Guerlain Nahema Rouge Automatique

It is almost not fair for me to write another Guerlain Rouge Automatique review, since long-time readers will know I have a real soft spot for these. A while ago I was shocked to realize despite my theoretical appreciation for corals, I did not own a real coral lipstick. That situation was to be rectified as soon as possible with my favorite lipstick range so far.

That’s how Nahema (143) came into my possession, and the reason why you have a short and sweet raving review to read today!

Shine Brighter Than the Star with Guerlain Shine Automatique! Sous Le Vent, Extrait de Rose, À La Parisienne, & Rose Pompon Swatch, Review, FOTDs

Ever since I raved on and on about Guerlain Rouge Automatique, my obsession with Guerlain lipsticks has not been a secret. I’ve tried great lipsticks afterwards, but to me personally Guerlain remains THE brand that knows all the secrets about great lipsticks. Should we see if Shine Automatique, a new line of Guerlain lipsticks that was launched very recently, lives up to the same expectations?

Swatch & Review: Guerlain Coque d’Or (120) Rouge Automatique (Takes Lipsticks to Another Level)

If you read beauty blogs, you have probably come across Guerlain lipsticks. I feel that there is less hype about them because the majority are not “limited edition (and also, let’s face it, they are by no means cheap thrills),” but people who have tried seldom report disappointment. I had to try it on for myself, and basically it felt like hitting the jackpot!

The packaging of Rouge Automatique is what you would expect from a luxury brand and some more. It is not as elaborate as Rouge G, but the much friendlier price and reduced bulk are good in my book. The gold casing renders it a regal air, and it gets brownie point from me because it doesn’t hold fingerprints! I’m pretty sure it’s plastic, but it’s luxurious-looking plastic! It doesn’t have a cap. You only need to drag the square trigger (that has the Guerlain logo on) down, and the lipstick emerges in front of you. It certainly feels very high-tech and gadgety!

As you can see, Rouge Automatiques have fine and precise tips. I personally adore precise tips, as they make my lips look more sculpted. The texture is by far the best I have ever tried. It’s creamy and moisturizing, highly possibly more comfortable to wear than a lot of lip balms. It is lightweight without being slippery. You wouldn’t see a dent in your lipstick soon, and it stays pretty well on my lips. In my experience, it survives drinks but not really food, but it easily wears for 4 hours or more. In other words, you get the best of both worlds with Rouge Automatique: it is creamy enough to glide beautifully, smoothly on, but not slippery so that the color doesn’t go all over the place on your lips. Now we’re talking about perfection! With one pass there is enough coverage, and it leaves a lovely stain behind once most of it is worn off during eating/drinking. It has a perfume-y smell, but it’s not very strong and disappears quickly enough.

Coque d’Or (meaning golden shell. It is originally the name for a Guerlain perfume launched in 1937) is a sheer, juicy red with golden shimmer. The shimmer is amazingly fine, and I can’t feel it (no grittiness) on my lips. It doesn’t have the tendency to travel around my face, either. It is a training wheel red, and one that exudes class. If I compare it with Revlon Lip Butter in Cherry Tart, which is the other of my training wheel red, you will see the base color is similar enough (Cherry Tart on the left, Coque d’Or on the right).

However, the texture, precise application, staying power, and lack of traveling glitter make Coque d’Or beat Cherry Tart hands down (I do understand it is unfair to compare a luxury item with a drugstore one). This is not a lipstick you have to make compromises for. It takes lipsticks to another level.

The only thing I would caution you about then, is once you know how good a lipstick can be, it is very difficult to fall in love with anything else. I received this one from a dear dear friend, but I am sure this won’t be the only Rouge Automatique I own!

Marina from Makeup4all wrote about the upcoming Guerlain Shine Automatique lipsticks that are coming out in March. Most of them look very shimmery, but with my positive experience with their older sisters, I am really looking forward to seeing them in person!

What do you think? Have you tried any Guerlain lipsticks? If you own any, what are they? I’ve got my eyes on 103 Chant d’Aromes (it’s the perfect nude for me), but I could always explore more!

FOTD with NARS Paramaribo & Guerlain Coque d’Or (120) Rouge Automatique

Hey everybody,

How’s your weekend so far? The weather feels almost like spring here today, so we went out for a walk and sushi dinner. Since I wanted to test some stuff out, I thought I’d show you an FOTD!

I used NARS Paramaribo for my eyes, with the lighter shade on the inner half and darker on the outer. My inner corners were highlighted with the Browbone shade on the left column of Wet n’ Wild Comfort Zone. My upper lash line was lined with Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Gel Eyeliner in Blackest Black, lower lash line with Urban Decay Bourbon and then smudged out with the darker shade of Paramaribo. I used Tarte Blissful on my cheeks, a bit of Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze, and some Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Soft Matte Bronzer to contour. For some reason, I thought the slightly “retro” Paramaribo would go well with Guerlain Coque d’Or, so that’s what ended up on my lips!

A couple more shots so you can see the eyes better:

I will swatch/review Paramaribo and Coque d’Or soon (expect them early next week), but I can tell you I’m getting a major kick out of both!

One last picture:

I finally managed to keep one post short and sweet! Thanks for reading, folks! For those of you who have stuck around, a big thank you and I will keep trying to keep you entertained 🙂 For those of you who just found this blog, please subscribe or leave a comment if you like what you see, and I promise there are only better things to come!

I hope you’re enjoying a fantastic weekend!
