Want Something That Is Applied in 30 Seconds and Lasts for 24 Hours? Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo Eyeshadows in Bold Gold & Bad to the Bronze Swatch, Review, FOTD & My New Follow Chairman Meow Mug!

Hey everyone,

Happy Sunday! How’s your weekend so far? I have been very much stuck in front of my computer trying to catch up with work, so blogging is like taking a break. Just don’t tell my editor about it!

Today I’m sharing my thoughts on the Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo Eyeshadows with you. These are unfortunately not yet available in Belgium. I was lucky enough to acquire them through a drugstore swap with Jessica from Getting Cheeky. If you haven’t checked out her blog, it’s high time that you did! She is a real lady with beauty radiating from inside, and an insanely talented blogger! I picked the two colors of the line that I am the most likely to use.

The packaging is sturdy and practical. Nothing fancy, but they actually come in glass pots which make them weigh a bit more and feel more expensive. Each pot contains a generous amount of 4 grams too. I’ve been using them for several times now, and I have barely made a tiny scratch in the middle of the surface.

Bold Gold is a shimmery medium gold that also contains slightly bigger sparkle. The finish is almost metallic! The pigmentation of this one is great, but perhaps a tad less saturated than Bad to the Bronze. A tiny bit of building up will suffice though. The texture is slightly rougher than Bad to the Bronze too. It’s not uncomfortable, but I wish it could be just a tiny bit smoother. However, like all gold shadows, this one gives my eyes an incredible twinkle that the 8/10 in opacity and texture can easily be forgiven!

Bad to the Bronze is a bronze with a healthy dose of shimmer and sheen. For my pretty warm undertone, this shade could almost look like a taupe! With that said, I think this is a bronze that those with a cool undertone can sport with ease. The texture and pigmentation of this one is excellent. You really only need a tiny bit for it to show on your lids!

What I find incredible about these cream shadows is that they are very easily to apply. I use my pinky, and in 30 seconds both of my eyes are done. Also, I tested out wear with no primer to begin with, and I never had to take the test further. They both trooped through like real champions, with no creasing, fading, or smudging at the end of the day! I didn’t test them for 24 hours (sorry, but I really don’t fancy going to bed with makeup), but for more than 12 hours they were just fine!

Now onto more FOTDs I did with these. I used Bold Gold for the inner two thirds of my lids, and Bad to the Bronze on the outer third to contour. It was fast, easy, and it stayed put!

Bottom line: At the recommended retail price (6.99 dollars), you really can’t go wrong with these. From what I heard the grand majority of them perform really well, so if there’s a color you like you should grab a pot, especially since it will probably last you forever! Now let’s keep our fingers crossed that they will soon make their way to Belgium!

Random photo of the day:

My Follow Chairman Meow mug! My bestie found out about Chairman Meow a while ago. Being cat ladies (bestie: speak for yourself!), we were totally obsessed with it. When she found some Chairman Meow merchandise online, I knew I had to get something! At the end I chose this mug. It actually has print all over but I can’t get all of that in a picture! You can see it on the website I got it from if you’re interested!

PS: I paid for my own mug and I am not affiliated with Cafe Press in any sense. Just thought I’d share something fun with you! They actually have a whole bunch of really cute stuff. It’s SO hard to browse the site without wanting 100 new things! And no, this doesn’t say anything about my political affiliation either, so please don’t read into it!

Come Shopping with Me! Edition Brussels. Focus Store: Senteurs d’Ailleurs Part 1: Haute Cosmétique

Hey everyone!

Happy Easter Sunday! Did you do anything to celebrate? I invited my family over for lunch. The cleaning and cooking was a lot of work (let’s safely assume I won’t roast another lamb shoulder till next Easter), but it was so nice to spend some time with them! I also received some chocolate eggs and a chocolate bunny, so hopefully the supply will last me for a while!

Earlier this week I went to Senteurs d’Ailleurs (the literal translation would be scents elsewhere) in Brussels. The store is divided into two parts, the Haute Cosmétique and Haute Parfumerie. In part 1, I will give you a virtual tour of the Haute Cosmétique part. In a couple of days’ time, you will get to visit the Haute Parfumerie. Sounds good? Let’s go!

Kiehl’s is one of the fastest-rising skincare brand in Belgium! I just started testing out their Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution to see if it could get rid of my pigmentation spots (I haven’t started regretting being too slack about sun protection, though I’m sure at some point I will). Of course I have taken a before picture, so that I can follow up and show you the after ones (fingers crossed it’ll work for me)!

Aesop is no stranger to me, but for the Belgians this Australian brand is a new kid on the block. I think I have mentioned that I use their animal cleanser for my brushes very often. I caved in and purchased their Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm that day, and within hours it grew on me! I will give you guys a detailed report soon, but it’s safe to say it has serious HG potential.

I really wanted to try Bumble and Bumble when I was at the Sephora last year, but I was a little afraid my luggage would be overweight. Fear not, however, as the brand is actually available here! Does anyone have any recommendations? I wonder if the Deep Treatment would work well for my long and chemically-treated hair.

Laura Mercier! The makeup artist gave me a little touch-up and recommended some products that will work for my skin tone/type. I will have to look into them soon!

For the life of me I can’t remember why I didn’t try on some Tom Ford lipsticks! I must have been SO distracted with everything that was going on around me! I will have to go back and do that soon!

Some La Mer, anyone? I really liked the tropical aquarium, though I didn’t manage to get one single picture in which the fish isn’t moving so fast that it’s blurry!

Dermalogica is another brand that I have heard so much about but never tried. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Molton Brown has an amazing line-up of bath products, lotions, and so on. I was urged to try some hand wash and lotion, and it was IMPOSSIBLE to pick one out!

Finally, I just had to take a photo of this bar of soap because it’s my cat’s namesake!

Are you familiar with any of these brands? Do you have any recommendations? Have you been to a shop like this? Back in Taiwan I might be able to find these brands in a department store, but the display wouldn’t be half as nice, and it certainly wouldn’t be so spacious!

PS: Senteurs d’Ailleurs is located at Place Stéphanie 1A, 1050 Brussels. Their website is under construction at the moment, but if you’re interested in finding out what other brands they carry, you can always take a look here.

Special thanks go to Stijn, Tom, and everybody who was so kind and helpful! ♥

Swatch & Review: Dior Vernis 257 Incognito, 537 Riviera, 579 Plaza, 659 Lucky, & Top Coat. Matching Lips and Nails, Anyone?

Hey everyone!

When I swatched/reviewed the Dior Addict Extreme for you a couple of days ago, I promised to swatch/reviewed the matching Vernis. Well, here they are!

I’m going to begin with the top coat. These are my first Dior Vernis, so I would also like to review the brush. What better than a bottle of clear top coat to show you how the brush looks?

As you can see, the Dior brush is short and tapered on the sides. The pointy tip allows precise application. Either I have made a lot of progress in nail polish application recently, or these brushes are seriously amazing, because I had next to zero cuticle clean-up to do! The top coat has an excellent formula. It doesn’t pull, drag, or shrink the nail polish. It dries speedy fast, so you don’t have to stick your hands out in agony until you can move around like a normal person. It also did a great job keeping the nail polish fresh and glossy!

Now onto the nail polishes.

Incognito (257) is a pretty and understated nude pink. While the matching lipstick has the tendency to wash me out, I love how this shade looks on my fingernails. It’s so clean and classic! The formula is great. While one coat doesn’t achieve opacity, it is smooth and brush-stroke-free. With two coats it’s perfect (though not 100% opaque if this is very important for you)! It’s definitely something I would reach for when I have a wedding to attend, or when I want to be understatedly pretty!

While the lipstick form of Riviera (579) is stunning, the nail polish version is really a burst of bright (almost neon) orange/coral! It’s mostly orange, though I see a bit of coral in it too. The formula is slightly thicker, but still very easy to work with. With one coat it is almost already opaque, though I always do two for good measure.

579 Plaza is a berry pink. Again, the formula is slightly thicker but very workable, and with one coat it is already almost opaque! This is the kind of color that I never had the courage to try, because I thought it would make my skin tone look muddy. However, it is really not an issue with this one and I love it!

Last but not least, allow me to present you 659 Lucky. On me it is a coral red, though with different light/angle it could look like a hot pink! It is a very nuanced color. Despite the fact that it is not shimmery/glittery/holographic or a duo-chrome, I would say it is a very complex shade!

All of these have a creme finish, though even without a top coat they are very glossy. The dry time is satisfactory, and they last around 4 days on with minimal chip/tip wear (which is the best case scenario for me. Please bear in mind that my nails are still not in good shape at the moment, and nail polishes never stay very long on broken nails).

Bottom line: I would not say any of these colors is an absolute must-have, as you might be able to find quite similar ones on the market. However, I must say that the formula is excellent, the brush a breeze to work with, and the nuance in these seemingly straight-forward shades makes them worthy of the designer name!

Please stay tuned for some comparison swatches in my existing stash!

What do you think? Does any of the bright and cheerful colors call your name? Are you a fan of nudes such as Incognito? Would you wear matching lips and nails?

In other news, meet my new pet Mr. Owl:

Isn’t he oh-so-cute??? My bestie HM gave it to me last week, and it’s the first cocktail ring I own! I’ve never been a fan of chunky rings as they’re not the most practical, but this owl looks so adorable and tame I really don’t mind taking him to places!

Mr. Owl says goodbye:

Have a good one, guys, and we’ll see you around!

Quick & Dirty Swatches of L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows in 15 Flashback Silver, 28 Enigmatic Purple, 29 Smoky Green, 30 Ultimate Black + A Random Spring Day

Hey everyone!

How was your day? Are you suffering from the gloomy Monday syndrome or are you coping just fine?

I had a great day today, mostly because I got up early and got a lot of things done. I took many pictures that I need for future posts (some won’t come up till much later since they need to be tested still). There was so much sunlight that I seemed to have drawn some inspiration, and I hope you’ll like the new photos!

I haven’t had time to swatch all the Dior Vernis yet, so today I’m doing a little filler post. I went to the drugstore and saw 4 new L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows, and I did some quick and dirty swatches for you!

These are 15 Flashback Silver (I don’t believe this is new. It’s just that we didn’t get it till now. It is renamed as 222 Infinity Sky in the US), 28 Enigmatic Purple, 29 Smoky Green, and 30 Ultimate Black. I believe the latter three are relatively new, since I can’t find an awful lot of information about them online. My first impression is that these matte ones aren’t AS pigmented or smooth compared to their shimmery counterparts. They’re still very good, but not exactly to the same extent. I had no problem building them up and smoothing the slight chalkiness out though, so maybe it won’t be a big problem when applied on the lids.

Also, since it’s a filler post, I decided to share some random pictures I took today with you.

Behold Muffin and Tango tangled up in a headlock. I think they might have been fighting for the patch of sun, but it could just be Muffin getting bored. I took the pink paper out of the Caudalie tote I got last week because they sometimes play with/sit on it.

This is Tango getting his tum tanned. He eventually flipped over so that he could tan his back lol

Since the weather was fantastic, Dr. D and I went on a walkie in the neighborhood. The cherry blossoms are blooming here! Spring really has come!

Voila, just a little something to keep you entertained until I get the time to swatch/review something properly (I’m aiming at tomorrow though, so it won’t be long). I hope your week is off to a great start!

PS: What do you guys think about this kind of posts? Would you like to see it from time to time or not at all? Of course I won’t do a filler post twice every week or something, but sometimes when I’m having a good day and I have some random bits and pieces of my life in photos, I would also love to share with you! Let me know in the comment section below whether occasionally you’d be entertained by a post in the same vein or not 🙂

In These Shoes?

Hey everyone!

Happy Monday! The weather has been looking pretty good here and this solar-powered girl couldn’t be happier!

Remember the Sacha photo shoot I told you about at the end of my UPR The Big You post? As you can see the photo is here!

I personally love how it turned out. You can finally see something like a proper OOTD picture there (and yes, that’s about as many colors as I wear on a daily basis haha).

If you like it, you can move to Facebook and click “like” on the picture!

I even found a song to go with the shoes. For some reason it always cheers me up, so I hope it’ll bring your Monday some punch!

I have some exciting posts coming up. I just have to meet a deadline tomorrow, and then I can come back to blogging at full speed!

In the meantime, take care and enjoy the weather 🙂
