Comparison Swatches: Dior Vernis Incognito/OPI Tickle my France-y, Dior Vernis Plaza/ONLY YOU Pink Kiss, Dior Vernis Riviera/ONLY YOU Acid Love

Hey everybody, happy Sunday! I hope you’re enjoying some down time and restoring energy!

I promised you to show you some comparison swatches of Dior Vernis and similar shades in my stash. Well, here they are! I’m sorry that two of the three shades I pulled out for comparison are only available in Belgium. However, this is just to give you an idea. With so many spring/summer collections coming out, I’m sure you can find something close enough if you don’t want to splurge out on Dior Vernis!

The first set is OPI Tickle My France-y and Dior Vernis Incognito (257). In the following swatches you can see Tickle My France-y on my index and ring fingers; Incognito on my middle and pinky.

These two are not dupes, but they are definitely in the same vein. Tickle My France-y doesn’t have the slightly transparent quality of Incognito, and it is browner.

Next, we have Dior Vernis Plaza with ICI PARIS XL ONLY YOU Pink Kiss.

Pink Kiss is super opaque, and it is more fuchsia with a stronger blue undertone. Also, if you look VERY closely under direct sunlight, you see a teeny bit of shimmer which Plaza doesn’t have. Plaza has more pink in it compared with Pink Kiss. In the following swatch pictures, I’m wearing Pink Kiss on my index and ring fingers, Plaza on my middle and pinky.

Now let’s move on to the crazy bright Dior Vernis Riviera and ONLY YOU Acid Love.

Again, I love both. While Riviera is flashier and much more of an opaque orange, Acid Love has a jelly-ish finish, and the coral becomes very pronounced in comparison.

The only one of the Dior Vernis I have nothing to compare with is Lucky. Again, I’m sorry that I’m comparing two of the Dior shades to Belgian exclusives, but this is just so you know you can highly possibly find something similar enough if you’re either into the refined Incognito or the hot and fun Plaza and Riviera!

That’s it for today! I hope you guys have had a great weekend. I’ve got very exciting things lining up here, so remember to stay tuned!

PS: The GRAND highlight of my day so far is that Karen from Makeupandbeautyblog features my FOTD in her Weekly Roundup! Also, if you love cats, remember to check out MBB’s Rent-A-Tabby service. It’s hilarious, and who doesn’t want to spend a few days with a handsome tabby in a costume!

Swatch & Review: ICI PARIS XL ONLY YOU Spring/Summer Limited Edition 113 Banana Split, 178 Acid Love, 213 Pink Kiss, 313 Miss Bikini, & 383 Wasabi

Hey everyone!

Remember a while ago I swatched and reviewed some ICI PARIS XL ONLY YOU shades for you? I was very impressed with the brush and the formula. Today I’m showing you their spring/summer limited edition shades. Let’s see how these super fun and bright colors perform!

All swatches are done with base coat and two coats. No top coat so you can see how glossy they are on their own!

This is 113 Banana Split. I haven’t previously owned any yellow, but pastel yellow is one of the “it” colors this season so I was very excited to try! In bottle this shade is slightly shimmery, but the shimmer doesn’t transfer onto nails. Instead, it just has a lovely sheen. I absolutely adore the color, but my gripe with this one is the formula is pretty thick. The texture is almost like mousse and it is not very easy to work with. The result still looks pretty good, but I wish the formula were a little thinner.

178 Acid Love is another hot color of the year, namely tangerine tango! It is coral/orange, and I was smittened! The formula with this one is on the thin side, almost runny but not quite. Like everything else in this collection, two coats achieve complete opacity! This one has a creme finish.

213 Pink Kiss is definitely one of my favorites of the bunch! I have tried fuchsia/plum before, but it didn’t go all that well so I was a little wary of Pink Kiss. As soon as I was done with the first coat however, I knew it’s THE winner! The formula JUST right: it is pigmented and smooth enough to be a one-coater. I did two for good measure, but if you only have time for one, this polish is a good bet! This has a slight shimmer in the bottle, which translates into a sheen on nails. Gorgeous!

383 Wasabi is a fantastic chartreuse. It again has some shimmer in the bottle, but on the nails it’s hard to see any shimmer. The formula is pretty thin, and the first coat was rather streaky. However, it is all nicely smoothed out with the second one, and it becomes completely opaque as well.

Last but not least, I bring you 313 Miss Bikini. Contrary to my worries, this periwinkle blue does not clash horribly with my skin tone! It is still not a color I would reach out for on a daily basis, but it’s really not bad! This one also has a slight shimmer, and under the sun you can see a little bit of it, but it is not very visible. There are two things I don’t like so much about this nail polish though. First of all, the formula is pretty thick. It requires some effort to smooth it out. Second of all, this shade stains pretty bad. I did use a base coat, but still it was hard to remove everything. Unfortunately it was the first shade I chose to swatch, so my blood pressure basically shot through the roof lol

All in all, these are bright and fun shades that are perfect for spring/summer. Formula-wise, Pink Kiss stands out the most, Wasabi and Acid Love are thin but easy to work with, and Banana Split and Miss Bikini require a little more work because it’s thicker. Also, be warned that Miss Bikini is hard to remove. If you like the color and don’t mind dealing with some staining, you should go ahead. However, I would really recommend using a base coat when you wear this shade. Generally speaking, these polishes wear as well on me as Zoya or China Glaze, which is 3-4 days with minimal chip and tip wear.

With some help from Muffin, my personal favorites are these three:

How about you? Did you see anything you like? What are some of the “it” shades this season you have tried or want to try? What are your favorite nail polishes for spring/summer?

Sunny, your beauty culture translator xx

PS: The recommended retail price of ONLY YOU polishes is 4.95 per bottle (10ml). I think the 3 for 9.95 promotion is still going on, but I have no information as to when it will end.

Event: ICI PARIS XL Press Day with Black Up, Erborian, F Fekkai, Philosophy, Kenzoki, Orlane, Qiriness, ONLY YOU, & Madonna Truth or Dare

Hey everyone!

I had the great pleasure yesterday of being invited to the ICI PARIS XL press day to check out some of the new exclusive brands they are carrying. Let’s take a look at who/what was there!

Black Up is a French brand founded by a makeup artist of African ancestry. The brand focuses on products that will enhance the beauty of black and mixed beauties, but just look at those lipsticks! I’m sure if you are a lipstick lover you will adore these! It’s funny because I was sitting down for a break before talking to the ladies, and they were already telling the ICI PARIS XL PR representative that I should go over there as soon as possible. Why? Because I was wearing NARS Mexican Rose and they were sure I’d be intrigued by their lipsticks. They were not wrong!

Erborian is a Korean brand. BB cream has been all the rage in Asia and North America, now we’re finally going to be able to lay our hands on one of the earliest BB creams available! I tested it out on the back of my hand, and the texture is very light and pleasant. Promising, very promising!

F Fekkai is a professional hair care brand. I have long wanted to try their shea line, so it was pretty exciting to see the line-up there! For this summer, they are launching two new products including Salon Technician Highlight Care and Marine Summer Hair to help hair cope with the humidity and the sun. I don’t know how they work yet (but I will find out for you), but both products smell amazing (that’s a good start)!

Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce you to the long-awaited Philosophy products in Belgium? I can tell you I behaved like a crack addict at that stand, trying to inhale as much delicious smell from their products as possible! Their skincare products look exciting too. I loved the microdelivery peel!

Kenzo launched a skincare line called Kenzoki. Look at that pretty packaging! They had their white lotus line there. Since lotus happens to be one of my favorite flowers (if not THE favorite. It reminds me of summer at home), I was practically swooning.

Orlane is another French skincare brand that has 5 lines of products (though we only saw 4) targeting hydration, anti-fatigue, firmness, first signs of age, and anti-wrinkle. The lady was very enthusiastic and kept putting all kinds of creams and serums on the back of my hands (actually everybody did, but there were SO many at Orlane). By the end of the day the back of my hands was certainly baby-soft!

Qiriness specializes in SPA products that everybody can pamper themselves with. The lady demonstrated some products that would take a smidgen of time to take care of your skin in the comfort of your home. I like how she said (to me and another lady):” Leave your children to your husband for 15 minutes a week, and you can take care of yourselves in the bathroom.” I don’t have children yet, but it sounds like a good deal!

Remember the ONLY YOU nail polishes I talked about a while ago? Look who’s here! The entire lineup including the limited edition summer shades! The product manager told me they’re already developing the winter collection, and I practically begged her to include some shimmery and maybe even holographic shades, so we’ll see!

Last but not least, do you know what this is?

Want a closer look?

It is Madonna’s new perfume Truth or Dare! Here in Belgium it will be an ICI PARIS XL exclusive! I will receive more information soon, and I will definitely let you guys know more when I find out about the exact launch date. The scent itself? I smell a great dose of gardenia, some jasmine, some vanilla, but I’m sure there is more! The story is that Madonna lost her mother early, so she created this perfume with the scent of her mother in mind, kicking it up a notch with a modern twist. If you like gardenia or flowery perfume in general, do check it out when it comes out!

That’s my report of the ICI PARIS XL press day! If you have any questions about these brands, please do not hesitate to ask, as I might be able to dig out more information for you! I received some PR samples yesterday, but since these are skincare products, please give me a bit longer to test them out thoroughly. I promise I will let you know what I think as soon as I can!

What do you think? Which brand looks the most exciting for you? Would you like to try the BB cream or maybe some Philosophy?

Sunny xx

Thank you Jean-Fran├žois, Marie, and Stefanie for the invitation, and everybody who was there xx

Swatch & Review: ICI PARIS XL ONLY YOU 500 Sleeping Beauty, 193 Hot Chili, 490 Fabulous, & Fast Drying Top Coat

Hey everyone! Today I’m bringing you the swatches and review of ICI PARIS XL’s newly launched nail polish line, ONLY YOU. For those who don’t live in Belgium (or the Netherlands), ICI PARIS XL is the biggest perfume and luxury makeup retailer here. The company recently launched its own nail polish line named ONLY YOU, and I’ve got 3 shades as well as the Fast Drying Top Coat to show you!

The first thing that struck me was how good the brushes are. I have recently swatched a Dior nail polish, and the ONLY YOU brushes remind me of the Dior one. They are tapered, wide, and very easy to control. I didn’t get annoying brush strokes with these at all. I definitely prefer them to many other nail polishes I own.

Note: All swatches are done with base coat and top coat.

Sleeping Beauty is a warm, brownish nude. It would be along the same line as OPI Barefoot in Barcelona for example. Nude is office-friendly and never out of fashion. Even though I normally prefer something a little more colorful on my fingertips, this is the type of polish I would reach for if I have a wedding to attend, am meeting my future boss/parents-in-law for the first time… You get the idea! The consistency is great, and 2 coats gave me opaque coverage.

I love all three polishes equally, but to be honest Hot Chili is the best surprise! I have always stayed away from bright reds, because the grand majority of them are way too cool-toned and blue-based for me to pull off. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I put Hot Chili on though, because it looked more than OK against my skin tone! Just based on this fact alone, I would take a chance and say the undertone is pretty neutral. I believe this is a great basic that people with different skin tones and undertones can easily pull off! The consistency is again excellent, and I achieved opaque coverage with 2 coats.

I knew I was destined to love Fabulous even before I had the chance to swatch it. It’s a blackened burgundy/cherry creme. Very dark, vampy, and delicious! This is probably THE color for the colder season, and again I think it is universally flattering. The application was perfect, and it’s another 2-coater!

The Fast Drying Top Coat is indeed fast drying. Nails become touch-dry within minutes of applying this top coat, and it gives a lovely glossy finish. The only complaint I have about it is it could drag some nail polish off. If you wait for long enough between the nail polish itself and the top coat it’s better, but I still saw traces of nail polish coming off. To be honest however, the majority of the top coats I’ve tried have this problem, and this one is already rather decent (some make your nail polish shrink eeeek).

ONLY YOU nail polishes contain 10ml per bottle and retail for 5.5 (10% discount if you have an ICI PARIS XL card, which brings the price down to 4.95) euros. There are 22 colors in the permanent range, and every season there will be 5 limited edition ones to join the happy family. For this season, we’re getting 113 Banana Split (a canary yellow), 178 Acid Love (a bright fuchsia), 213 Pink Kiss (a plummy pink), 383 Wasabi (an acid green), and 313 Miss Bikini (a cornflower blue).

Even more good news? At this very moment there is a promotion of 3 ONLY YOU nail polishes for 9.95 going on! That’s a really good price for such quality nail polish! I would advise you to pop into an ICI PARIS XL close by and see if there’s anything that catches your eye!

I will update you guys on the wear time (currently wearing Fabulous to test out wear), but so far everything looks good!

What do you think? If you live in Belgium would you like to give these a try?

Sunny xx
