Comparison Swatches: Dior Vernis Incognito/OPI Tickle my France-y, Dior Vernis Plaza/ONLY YOU Pink Kiss, Dior Vernis Riviera/ONLY YOU Acid Love

Hey everybody, happy Sunday! I hope you’re enjoying some down time and restoring energy!

I promised you to show you some comparison swatches of Dior Vernis and similar shades in my stash. Well, here they are! I’m sorry that two of the three shades I pulled out for comparison are only available in Belgium. However, this is just to give you an idea. With so many spring/summer collections coming out, I’m sure you can find something close enough if you don’t want to splurge out on Dior Vernis!

The first set is OPI Tickle My France-y and Dior Vernis Incognito (257). In the following swatches you can see Tickle My France-y on my index and ring fingers; Incognito on my middle and pinky.

These two are not dupes, but they are definitely in the same vein. Tickle My France-y doesn’t have the slightly transparent quality of Incognito, and it is browner.

Next, we have Dior Vernis Plaza with ICI PARIS XL ONLY YOU Pink Kiss.

Pink Kiss is super opaque, and it is more fuchsia with a stronger blue undertone. Also, if you look VERY closely under direct sunlight, you see a teeny bit of shimmer which Plaza doesn’t have. Plaza has more pink in it compared with Pink Kiss. In the following swatch pictures, I’m wearing Pink Kiss on my index and ring fingers, Plaza on my middle and pinky.

Now let’s move on to the crazy bright Dior Vernis Riviera and ONLY YOU Acid Love.

Again, I love both. While Riviera is flashier and much more of an opaque orange, Acid Love has a jelly-ish finish, and the coral becomes very pronounced in comparison.

The only one of the Dior Vernis I have nothing to compare with is Lucky. Again, I’m sorry that I’m comparing two of the Dior shades to Belgian exclusives, but this is just so you know you can highly possibly find something similar enough if you’re either into the refined Incognito or the hot and fun Plaza and Riviera!

That’s it for today! I hope you guys have had a great weekend. I’ve got very exciting things lining up here, so remember to stay tuned!

PS: The GRAND highlight of my day so far is that Karen from Makeupandbeautyblog features my FOTD in her Weekly Roundup! Also, if you love cats, remember to check out MBB’s Rent-A-Tabby service. It’s hilarious, and who doesn’t want to spend a few days with a handsome tabby in a costume!

Swatch & Review: OPI Baguette Me Not

Hey everyone, I hope Monday is treating you well! It’s incredibly sunny here today, and I’m hoping it’ll stay this way for a while! Today I’m bringing you a happy shade that matches how I feel on a sunny day, namely OPI Baguette Me Not!

2008 is already 4 years behind us, but OPI La Collection de France remains one of the best OPI collections I have ever seen, and Baguette Me Not remains my favorite bright pink.

Baguette Me Not is what I would describe as a happy salmon pink. It is a creme finish with no shimmer or glitter. It has a personality without being too attention-seeking. The warmness of the color works very well with my warm undertone. The coverage and consistency are excellent. It’s also something that I can wear all-year-round, neither too heavy for summer nor overly bright for winter. I have received plenty of compliments when I sport this on my nails. It’s sweet with a punch, carefree yet sophisticated!

What do you think? What’s your happy pink?

Swatch & Review: OPI Royal Rajah Ruby

Hey everybody! Since my nails are not as miserably broken as before, I thought I’d start showing you my nail polish collection. I’m going to begin with the vampier part of my collection because it’s still the season to wear these shades. Today I’m showing you OPI Royal Rajah Ruby.

Royal Rajah Ruby came out with the OPI Spring 2008 India collection (it’s really old news), and I got this bottle at the end of 2010. I was looking for a vampy polish that will be good for the upcoming holidays after Lincoln Park After Dark turned out to be a major disappointment on my fingernails (it’s way too black. I tried to paint my fingernails twice with this polish, but I couldn’t stand it for more than half an hour so I ended up swapping it out). I hesitated between this and other similar shades (Tease-y Does It, Eiffel for This Color, Siberian Nights…) but ended up picking this one because the others are either too dark (I don’t want to repeat the LPAD fiasco) or too brown. I can tell you I don’t regret a single bit! Royal Rajah Ruby is a sensational brown-based red with gold shimmer. It’s noticeable in a nice way but not too in-your-face. The first coat could be a bit tricky, but with two coats it’s even, glossy, and completely opaque (you wouldn’t find me singing praises about a nail polish that takes more than two coats to achieve opacity. I simply don’t have the patience for that). I wear this both on my fingernails and toenails in winter, but even in summer I wear it on my toes!

Here are the swatch pictures in both natural and indoor light:

Brown-based nail colors are tricky for me to wear, because brown doesn’t contrast enough with my skin tone. As a result, my skin is left looking dull. However, this one really doesn’t cross the line of being too brown. I think it’s a lovely balance between brown and burgundy, and the shimmer spices it up nicely!

The formula is typical OPI. I still find OPI formula and brush the easiest to work with, and even on my broken nails it lasts a little better than other brands. I know that nowadays more bloggers rave about up-and-coming brands than OPI, but OPI nail polishes still have a special place in my heart!

How about you? What are some of your favorite vampy shades? Do you have anything that’s similar to Royal Rajah Ruby?

FOTD: What I Wore for Christmas and Beautybay Sale!

Hey everyone!

How was your Christmas? Did you have a good one with a lot of nice presents and food overdose? My Christmas Eve was quiet, but I did see quite some friends over Christmas Day and Boxing Day, so I would like to share the looks I did with you.

First and foremost is my Christmas manicure. I very seldom wear nail polish nowadays, but since D cooked on Christmas Eve and we were going over to some friends’ on Christmas Day, I thought I’d seize the chance. The polish is OPI Merry Midnight. It is from the 2009 Christmas collection, so it is rather difficult to find one now. I only found out about it this summer when I picked this shade for my pedicure back home, and I was lucky enough to find a bottle on Yahoo Auction in Taiwan (it’s the equivalent of EBay in Taiwan because it has been there for much longer). I don’t like to tease you with limited edition or hard-to-find items, so I am not going to write a separate review about it. As you will be able to see in the following picture, the polish is a jelly purple with multi-color shimmer and flakes. The first coat is stunningly uneven, un-sparkling, and uninspiring in general. I remember being so taken aback during my pedicure when the lady put on the first coat. I almost said:” you must have made a mistake! This is NOT the shade I picked out!” But after the second coat things get dramatically better. You do need more skills and experience to work with this nail polish, and I find it difficult to avoid some unevenness altogether (though nothing too concerning). Something else I don’t like so much about it is the fact that it doesn’t last as well on me as a typical OPI nail polish. I’m getting tip wear and some chips after just a couple of days, while normally OPI polishes last 3-4 days with minimal tip wear on me! I do hope OPI will bring the shade back with a better formula.

Now moving on to my Christmas Day makeup. I did a “classic” look with the Naked Palette. I used Sin on the inner half, Buck on the outer half, the lightest shade of NYX Rock and Roll on the inner corner, and smudged my lower lash line out with Gunmetal. I was also testing Tarte Exposed out and was pretty happy with it! On my lips it’s Chanel Rouge Coco Mademoiselle.

For Boxing Day I did something a bit more dramatic. I used my L’Oreal HiP duo in 106 Sculpted. The lighter shade all over my lid, and the darker shade on the outer corner, brought into my crease, and on my lower lash line. On the inner corner is Sin from the Naked Palette, Tarte Exposed on cheek, a bit of Bali Brown to add some dimension to my face, and MAC Sweetie on lips.

I have to report that the darker shade of the duo is really rather hard to blend, and there is some fallout. The fallout isn’t too concerning at all, but the lack of blendability is a pain. The lighter shade doesn’t pull orange on me though, so I’m happy about that. I wore makeup for 11-12 hours that day, and by the end of the day I could see some fading, but it was still OK. Man, you can see the print my glasses leave on my nose SO clearly in this picture (for some reason it is worse on the left side)! I might have to start looking for a decent concealer now.

Also, I’m still looking for a way to take clearer pictures of my FOTD. As what I have told you, we haven’t had a lot of natural light in Belgium, and the flashlight doesn’t always allow colors to be captured on photos as they are. I will work on this issue, but in the meantime I hope you at least get an idea!

Last but not least, Muffin the new kitten wants to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a 2012 with a punch!

She has been with us for a bit more than two weeks now, and she is a total sweetheart! I’ll for sure introduce her properly in the blog soon. She plays go fetch just like what Brownie used to do. Can you believe that?

Lots of Christmas love,

Oh, and pssst I almost forgot to tell you about this! is having a 10% off sale till midnight Wednesday (UK time, so it might be earlier/later depending on where you live. For example, in continental Europe, it would be 1AM on Thursday). I am a registered customer, so I received an e-mail with 15% off. The promotion code is the same though (XMAS), so I guess the system just checks if you are already in it. If you have been lemming for Cargo blushes for example, this would be a great opportunity to get some! What I LOVE about Beautybay is the fact that it doesn’t rip you off. A 25-dollar Cargo blush would cost about 18.60 euros, but the rate does change a little from time to time (or even every day?). Beautybay also carries Too Faced, Urban Decay, Bedhead, Bare Escentuals, and so on. I got some stuff myself, and will show you soon!
