Micellaneous Beauty Photos: Budget Shower Gel, Mascara Stash, Weak Nail Solutions…

Hey everyone!

I hope you’ve had a good Monday so far! Today I’m showing you some miscellaneous beauty-related pictures, so sit back and enjoy!

Le Petit Marseillais is hands down my favorite supermarket shower gel. It comes with a wide range of scents, never dries my skin out or leaves it slippery, and did I mention it’s paraben-free?

I do occasionally get tempted to splurge on an expensive shower gel, but most of the time I prefer to keep it budget-friendly. As long as it smells pleasant, doesn’t dry my skin out (and doesn’t leave it slippery either. That I can’t stand), and is preferably as natural as possible, we’re on. Le Petit Marseillais totally fits the bill. Oh and the funny thing? Dr. D likes it too, but he prefers green bottles just because he thinks they look more masculine. Boys…

Here is to hoping against hope.

As some of you might remember, I’ve been suffering from weak and peeling nails for quite some months now. Normally a 3-month-course of vitamin supplement helps, but this time it didn’t work. I was on the supplement from another brand, but now I am continuing with Oenobiol. Packed with B vitamins, it should strengthen nails and hair. I have to take two a day during a meal.

I ran out of base coat recently too, and I got Essie Grow Stronger Fortifying Treatment Base Coat. It claims to strengthen nails in 5 days. It might be the combination of continuous vitamin supplement and a strengthening base coat, but my nails are not peeling further. I’m waiting for the broken parts to grow out, but I think after months and months I’ll finally have decent nails again.

Essie Grow Stronger looks a tad pink in the bottle, but on the nails it’s MOSTLY clear. It might be a bit tinted, but it doesn’t change the color of the nails all that much. I try to keep this on even when I’m not wearing nail polish nowadays, just to have something to protect my nails a little. Here you can see a swatch picture of this.

I will review these two items in detail, but it might be a while. For the base coat, I want to wait till the peeling parts are gone to test and compare it with other base coats I have tried before. For the Oenobiol supplement, I want to at least wait till I’m done (I still have about 66 days left). Maybe even longer, if I want to see how long the effects last!

My name is Sunny and I am a mascaraholic. From left to right: Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume, MAC Zoom Waterfast Lash, L’Oreal Million Lashes, Max Factor False Lash Effect, and Chanel Intimitable.

Behold part of the mascara I still have to try out. It’s not ALL (there is one that has already been tested but not yet reviewed. Two are stuck at clearance, and I don’t know when they’re going to release the package. On top of that I might or might not have got a gift with purchase coming my way…)! I used to be very sober. I would find a mascara to stick to for three months (I actually have to throw it away after three months. Otherwise my eyes start itching), and if I got any samples in the meantime I might play with it too. Nothing THIS dramatic.

Before I knew it however, a trip to the supermarket, a cross-Atlantic swap, an online order or two later, this is what I ended up with. These will be tested out and reviewed in time. Do you have a preference for what you want to see first? I might be able to accommodate!

Oh, before I forget: for those of you who have tried Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara, it is coming out today (14th of May) in this special pink edition exclusively at Kruidvat for 9,99 euros! The offer lasts till the 26th of May. I am currently testing it out, and I must say I am really impressed! I will review it as soon as I can, hopefully by the end of this week so you’ll still have time to decide whether you want to grab a tube!

For those who are going on holiday, Rituals has launched some travel-size products to help you travel light! Besides the mini deodorant (2,90 euros), these retail for 4,90 euros a piece. I’m saying it will definitely last you quite a while as well! The shampoo and conditioner smell SO good. In fact, every time I take them out they become the ONLY thing I can smell! The body products are less overpowering, but still they smell gorgeous (like lotus)!

I basically have everything it takes to go on holiday, but so far I don’t have anything booked yet!

What is your favorite budget-friendly shower gel? Do you have a mascara stash that’s getting out of hand? Which mascara would you like to see me review next?

Bonus kitty photo:

Muffin waiting patiently by her daddy’s dining chair. Can kitty have a piece?

She does get a taste from time to time, and so far she’s very polite (when she loses patience she only puts her front paws on his lap. Nothing further). It’s hard to resist when she looks at you with such bright eyes!

Review: Rituals Eau de Parfum Travel Sprays and Luxury Holders Have Your Holiday Scent Covered

How do you travel with perfume? Ever since carrying liquid on the plane became so much hassle, I have been looking for holiday scent alternatives. The current rule (please correct me if I am wrong) is that each traveler is allowed a zip-lock bag of liquid and gel, and each container should not have more than 100ml of capacity. Technically speaking you would be fine, but say your perfume bottle is so long and thin that it doesn’t fit in the zip-lock bag? Say you need some essentials such as hand cream and toothpaste to get you through a long flight? You’ll have to check your perfume in. Call me a stressy head, but I am perceptually worried about the bottle shattering in the process, staining everything with perfume. As much as I love any given scent I own, this doesn’t seem like the perfect scenario to start or end a holiday. So what do we do?

Rituals, a Dutch company of luxury home and body cosmetics, might have just come up with an answer. Not only did they team up with world-renowned perfumers to develop their own scents, but they also took things to the next level by coming up with the travel spray and luxury holder system.

Here’s the deal: you purchase the travel spray and luxury holder separately. The travel spray comes in 20ml bottles, and there are four different scents for women, and another four for men (they are also available in regular 50ml bottles). After you have picked out your favorite, you can choose from the three luxury holders. Two of them have a wooden finish, and one sleek metallic.

The perfume I picked out is No. 01, Ginger Essence & White Tea. According to Rituals, it is “a pure delight of White Tea combined with the powerful character of Ginger,” and it is supposed to be a “citric, floral, (and) subtle fragrance.” I am not an expert in describing scents, but basically the second I saw white tea and ginger essence on the packaging I knew it was destined to be mine! I would say the scent is clean but not sharp, floral and feminine without being over-the-top, and I can only assume the uplifting twist comes from the magic of ginger essence! On me it lasts for 6-7 hours, which is average.

The luxury holder is a nifty device. Basically you put the perfume in, and then you can twist the two parts back and forth to reveal and hide the spray head of your perfume. That way, you wouldn’t accidentally squirt some out in your bag, and you’ll never have to fear losing the cap! You can also easily replace the perfume with any Rituals travel spray of your choice, shall you ever get tired of the one you own.

Tada, this is how the set looks when the spray head is twisted down:

I can’t wait to take it with me on exciting trips this summer!

What do you think? How do you travel with your perfume? Have you seen a nifty system like this?

PS: Rituals Eau de Parfum Travel Spray retails for 16.90 euros, and luxury holder 13.90.

Event: The Big You & Sunny wearing MAC Viva Glam Nicki

Hey everyone!

I had the great pleasure of being invited to a mega fun event at the headquarters of UPR Belgium in Antwerp. Before I can talk about anything else however, I would like to thank Phil from Mirror Reality for keeping me company all the way. You guys should check his blog out if you are interested in skincare at all. He writes skincare reviews in a way that puts me to shame!

Let’s see what the brands have to offer shall we?

DKNY is launching three new Sweet Delicious fragrances this season, and they will be available exclusively at ICI PARIS XL on April 16th if you live in Belgium. The green one is Tart Key Lime, the pink one Pink Macaron, and the yellow Creamy Meringue. Like the cupcakes by which they are inspired, they smell creamy and smooth. By the way, the cupcakes were eventually raided by the hungry bloggers and staff!

It’s embarrassing, but I flipped a little when I saw this rack. I had NO idea Lavand is represented by UPR in Belgium! You might remember my Lavand dress from my Valentine’s Day FOTD, and if you don’t, I can tell you at least 80% of the dresses you have seen on me come from this brand (including the one you are going to see in this post). I am obsessed. So obsessed in fact, that I dragged Phil into the biggest store I know that stores Lavand in Belgium (Basta Great Spanish Fashion. Twaalf Maandenstraat 11, 2000 Antwerpen) before making it to the event. We were running out of time, but lucky for us I only saw one dress that I must have. Tried it on, took a look at myself in the mirror, paid for it and left. The whole process took about 5 minutes, and I’m so proud of myself! You will be seeing it when the weather gets warmer ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been wearing Swatch watches myself since I could remember. Look at the funky colors! The company representative told us that it is the machine that picks the components (which also have different colors), so the chance of you ever seeing someone who has the same watch is slim!

That’s Phil and me in front of the L’Occitane display. It’s one brand that we both adore (we actually had a stroll in the store right before arriving too), and I have featured some of their products on the blog.

This is the new makeup collection from Rituals. I know I have enough coral blushes as it is, but I was still all over that one! The pigmentation was generous!

Rituals is also launching their perfume collection. I had a great time exploring different scents!

A little nail polish, anyone? It’s my first ever nail art attempt with PRONAILS, a salon nail polish brand. Since I’m really pretty clumsy, I chose to try a mint green accent nail and leopard print sticker. To my utter surprise, mint green doesn’t look too bad on me!

That’s me being sneaky with a HUGE illy cup and the coffee can that I just designed (it says good morning world!). I can’t wait to finish my current coffee supply and try this out with my mocha pot!

Let me introduce you to sOxi. This is the second brand Veritas (for those of you who don’t live here, Veritas is a chain store where you can get accessories, socks, and also handicraft supply) has launched, and the range will be available from March 23rd at Veritas. The lady was pretty happy to see me, because I was already wearing mustard yellow tights and she was sure I will become a a sOxi customer! They also have funky socks and regular stockings. The prices are very reasonable, with 2.50 for a pair of socks and 5 for two pairs of black stockings!!!

This is the supply of the MAC artists for our technique class and my work station. The technique class was about smokey eyes, but I was a newbie who went with my makeup done. Since removing everything and starting from scratch would take too much time, I asked to try bold lip colors instead. I first tried See Sheer topped with Smile and loved it. Since I had a bit more time, Elke suggested I try Viva Glam Nicki. I would normally say no to such a crazy idea, but since I had time I thought I might as well. And *drum roll* it didn’t look bad on me at all!

Here is a lip swatch. It clung to the dry bits of my lips, but I was smittened with the color (also, for your information, since it was a demonstration product I applied with a lip brush. I’m sure the color would be more intense shall you wish you apply straight from the tube).

I walked around happily with my flashy pink lips for the rest of the afternoon ๐Ÿ™‚

Kiss&Kill 3D sunglasses. I watched the trailer of Despicable Me (love that movie by the way) with them on, and was utterly entertained! It’s SO thrilling to feel I’m going down with the roller coaster or see the drill right in front of my nose. Killer time! Kiss&Kill is exclusively available at Pearle in Belgium.

Kipling, or what I personally nickname the little monkey bag (fine, I know it’s an ape), is one of the many prides of Belgium. The company just celebrated its 25th birthday, and it’s great to see them coming out with great new designs.

We played Bingo to see who could win some of the limited edition camera bags, but unfortunately I didn’t win. I REALLY love the design though. I’m toying with the idea of purchasing first the bag and then a better camera to fit in it lol

We did a little arts & crafts with Swarovski, making two crystal mobile phone straps. The first thing that caught my eye in the new collection is the ladybug design (the wings move too, believe it or not)!

All in all it was an exciting action-packed afternoon. I can’t believe I forgot to take a picture at the Sacha corner. We each had the opportunity to try on a pair of the new spring collection before we sat down on a prop for a photo shoot. They will Photoshop the photos and put us on a super cool jungle background. I will for sure show you the picture when I get it, but for the moment you can drool over the pair of shoes I tried on. It was a miracle that I managed to walk (about 10 steps) to the prop, climb up, sat down, and walked back to take them off without falling on my face, but Jesus the color, the gold trim and strap, and the leopard accent are to-die-for!!!

Thanks for UPR for hosting such a fun event and all the nice bloggers I met!
