Chanel Summertime de Chanel is All about Subtle Beauty: Part 1 Intense Eye Pencil in Pêche Cuivré & Glossimer in Calypso Swatch, Review, FOTD

Happy Friday! What are your plans for the weekend? I’ll be off to the beautiful mountains of Belgium for a wedding tomorrow, and I have a lot of errands to run before that can happen. However, I can’t wait to show you the subtle beauty of Chanel Summertime de Chanel, which is just about as exciting!

Summertime de Chanel is a carefully put-together collection for summer 2012. From my own experience and what I have seen, this collection is masterful and on the safe side. Whether you’re on holiday or in the office, this is a collection that can’t go wrong! Today I’m showing you part 1, which includes the Intense Eye Pencil in Pêche Cuivré (75) and Glossimer in Calypso (337). Tomorrow you’ll be seeing the Luminous Bronzing Powder in Sable Rose (917).

Glossimer in 337 Calypso.

As I’ve told you before, I am not normally a gloss girl, but even this non gloss-girl has heard a lot about Chanel Glossimers! The packaging is sleek, and it comes with a doe-foot applicator that is easy to use. It doesn’t come out with too much gloss, so I do have to dip it back once.

Glossimer is a formula that boasts primarily its shimmer and high-shine glow. As you can see in the close-up picture, Calypso is a orange/coral with golden shimmer. The gloss offers a bit of color, but it is pretty sheer in coverage. However, it does go on very smoothly, the shimmer is very pretty, and it is not sticky. It has more of a gel texture (compared with the glosses I have reviewed before, it is a lot less tacky than MAC but not as buttery as Dior Addict Ultra-Glosses), and it does stay on for around 3 hours. For such a sheer gloss I think the staying power is more than decent! Also, as hard as I have tried to press my lips together, I can’t feel the shimmer at all, so that’s a big bonus for those who hate the “sandpaper” feeling!

This one should look great layered on a lipstick, but I enjoy wearing it on its own for just a hint of coral and beautiful shimmer. It is again something you have to wear outdoor on a sunny day to appreciate its true beauty! It is also hydrating!

The Intense Eye Pencil in Pêche Cuivré (meaning coppery peach, which I think is a great description for the color) is the only pencil I’ve ever loved on my lower waterline!

You see, when I first started watching Youtube tutorials, I heard that using a white eyeliner on the lower waterline helps brighten the eyes up. I went to the drugstore to get the only white eyeliner I could find, and it was a disaster. First of all, white does not look all that natural for the purpose. Second, the texture and color payoff of the particular pencil I found were so bad that I had to poke myself in the eye really hard to get SOMETHING on my lower waterline. Of course by then I had started tearing up like crazy, so nothing ever really showed anyways.

I put the pencil away and stopped experimenting with this eye-brightening trick till I found Pêche Cuivré. I was slightly skeptical, but I had to put it to test.

Pêche Cuivré is a coppery shimmery nude. I wish the texture were softer so that it would glide on another bit easily, but it certainly didn’t make me tear up. To make it show up better, I do need to go over my lower waterline a couple of times. However, once it’s on it’s on until I decide to remove it!

For me personally the lasting power and the brightening effect are what make this liner great in my book. I have gone through long days with this on my lower waterline, and at the end of the day it was always still hanging on! To be honest it is very surprising, because with my eye shape most eyeliners aren’t as problem-free as Pêche Cuivré. The brightening effect is subtle but definitely visible.

It’s hard to show you precisely how it works, but I swear when I was going through some photos the other day, I was surprised by how “big” and bright my eyes look in them. Since I wasn’t doing anything else differently, I can only assume it’s Pêche Cuivré!

I’m still NC30 at the moment, and it shows up on me just fine. I’ve heard that on fairer girls it might disappear, so that’s something you might want to take into consideration.

Bottom line: If you want a hint of coral, a lot of shimmer, and a gloss with one of the best formulas on the market, take a look at Calypso. If you want a long-lasting pencil that fares well on the lower waterline, definitely check out Pêche Cuivré!
